Oversized Blazers

My #ootd (or outfit of the day for those unaware of fashion blogger hashtags) from two days ago included an oversized blazer. Many of you were asking where I got it so I decided to post some recommendations on how to rock this look and where to get it.

The oversized look has been in fashion for a while now, it’s still going strong and I personally love it. I’m a big fan of oversized jackets, overcoats, sweaters… and there are so many options as to the way you can wear them and look stylish. I often wear something tight or on the short side with something oversized as I like the juxtaposition of styles. But I also like oversized everything! For example culottes with a loose blouse and mens blazer.

Below are some great options for rocking the oversized look, click the images to shop.

The Kooples Long Line Satin Blazer in Emerald. This blazer is just stunning! It also comes in blush.

This French Girl blazer from J. Crew is a bestseller for good reason, the look and feel c’est superbe! (that may be incorrectly used, I haven’t taken from in 20 years!)

The must have item.

T-shirts. I live in them. They are comfortable, fashionable and the ultimate statement of who you are. Nowadays you can dress um up or down, wearing them with jeans or sequins. They are the ultimate in versatility and comfortability. Everyone should have a good t-shirt in their wardrobe. From 18 to 80, these pieces can look great on everyone as long as you style it appropriately.

Don’t be afraid to splurge a little on one, they are looks that last. Here are a few of my favorite t-shirts out right now…

Vivienne Westwood Middling T-shirt inspired by her Anglomania collection. Paired with these plaid pants, as shown on her site, this look is perfection. The unique style of the shirt and complex statement of plaid suggests “sophistication with an edge”.

Comme des Garçons Play T-shirt. Emblazoned with their signature logo, this t-shirt is sweet and luxurious. You can’t help but smile when you see the cheeky heart with its big oval eyes. One of my favorite ways to wear a T is with a flowy skirt as shown. I love the juxtoposotion of styles. The elegant skirt with a relaxed T is such a cool statement.

Givenchy Star T. I’m sort of obsessed with stars right now so this design is perfect for me. A simple statement piece. Leather is always a good idea so pairing it with this mini is my idea of perfect streetwear or for me, work wear (#lovemyjob).

3 Trends that will grow on you.

Most of the time we don’t start out loving a trend, I suppose that’s the point. New trends start out as a style that is not very popular or something completely new and different that many don’t like and are afraid to try. I’m not always immediately on board with what’s fashionable and trendy. It takes a little time for me to warm up to certain new trends, but when I do I love them and find a way of making them my own.

It takes guts to get out there and try something new and different but it can often be worth it. I love taking risks and I love people who do so as well. It’s what being fashionable is all about, so if you try something new and it doesn’t go over well, don’t be afraid to keep trying and you just may become a trendsetter.

Here are a few trends right now that aren’t so popular with the masses but I’m pretty sure will grow on a lot of people, so keep your eyes out for these looks.

  1. Sunglasses. The trend is interestingly a throwback and a look forward. The sleek futuristic style of the 80s is back. I love these ones from Dior.ririsunglasses

2. Choker necklaces. I was obsessed with choker necklaces in the 90s and so glad they’ve made a come back. And there are a lot of cool and different styles to choose from, like this gold chain, star embellished piece on Gigi.

3. Sheer tops. Cara Delevingne is definitely known for her taste-making skills, and this look is a great example of that. I love the way she makes this sexy look both classy and elegant, pairing it with black cropped pants and heels.

London Street Style.

As much as I love seeing the latest from the runways of fashion week what I really enjoy are the styles worn on the streets. There’s a heightened state of fashion awareness during fashion month and a bevy of fashionistas hitting the streets of New York, London, Paris and Milan to show off their tasteful and artistic interpretations of style. Many flock to the shows, or not even to the shows just to the general vicinity of where they take place, to try to get noticed.

Here are some of my favorite looks from the streets of this year’s London Fashion Week. I love street styles that are classic and sophisticated, but have something that make them different. I like when a person shows that they are willing to take risks. Even if I wouldn’t necessarily wear the style myself or recommend it to a client,  it’s more of an admiration of someone’s willingness to think and do something outside of the box.

What’s your favorite look?

My favorite trend on the Emmys red carpet and how to wear it.

Velvet. I love this look by Ralph Lauren on Shailene Woodley. The color is perfect on her and velvet is so luscious and is not only a great material for a red carpet occasion but very on trend and stylish for any occasion. Below are 3 ways I suggest wearing it this season.
